For my double page spread I plan on writing a biography on Michelle lewin. She is a very inspirational person who became a physical trainer. I will discuss 5 major events in her life to intrigue the audience. I will include some quotes but not too many to make the reader feel that they are apart of her life. The main purpose of this article is to inspire those who have similar interests as her such as fitness and creating a business. I will prove that she is living proof that you can start with nothing and if you work hard you can achieve a lot of things.
The journalist is using words to create a tone, and impact and communicate their ideas. They use a lot of quotes that the person they are reviewing has said before. For example, in the Kacey Musgraves article they include quotes she said such as “ maybe for a minute I got too big for my britches”. Including quotes that the person you were reviewing said makes the article come more to life. It makes the audience feel that they or a part of this conversation. Using quotes also help explain the topic in depth and provide a framework for a certain idea. However, I have also read that some quotations can clutter your texts and interrupt the flow of your article. So it is important to not overuse quotes.
Another technique I have noticed and some of the examples provided is that they tend to use passed information on the person they are reviewing. For example, in Hudson Mohawkes review they say “ back when Hudson was crafting bombastic synth scapes in his moms Glasgow basement in the 2000s….” using this past information about the person the author is reviewing allows the audience to create some sort of connection to the person they are talking about. Once the audience feels a connection they will want to read more of this magazine and the sales will go up. The author tends to include drama or information that most people don’t already know to create a larger audience for their piece in the magazine. They also slightly include Their opinion on the topic they are discussing to create controversy within the article. https://cpb-eu-w2.wpmucdn.com/blogs.grammar.sch.gg/dist/e/5/files/2018/01/Reviews-2jn9ai6.pdf The top image is my first table of contents and the bottom image is my revised table of contents. I change the background color and the font to have it more appealing to the audience. I also added some clipart. I changed the topics i discussed throughout the magazine to relate to the audience more.
What significance does the continuing development of digital media technology have for media institutions and audiences?
The continuing development of digital media technology has a huge significance on media institutions and audiences. The film industry is always changing in order to find new ways to distribute their product. This makes "old" media such as DVD's not really necessary and it pushes pushes towards new viewing platforms and are slowly getting rid of the need for old media. This “wave” of new technology which companies are adopting is pushing the old media out of the industry. New technology isn’t always welcomed in the media industry as it does sometimes force a company to re-invest millions to reach the same level as their competitors. This financial risk can affect a company’s future, if the investment doesn’t help the overall profit the company then they have lost most of their money in a dead technology. 1. The magazine cover I created uses a lot of media conventions. The genre I chose was working out/getting active. A lot of people always want to get into working out and start going to the gym so with this magazine cover attracts a large audience. Especially around the new year many people like to better themselves and with these tips and routines that were provided on the cover made a lot of people interested. Using different fonts and ideas will persuade the people looking at the cover to read it.
My magazine cover represents all types of social groups. It attracts those who already go to the gym, those who would like to go to the gym, those who want to better themselves, those who want to get fit, those who need a push start into a new diet and so many more. I chose this magazine cover topic because it allows for a large audience whereas a magazine about beauty will only attract some women and few males. Getting fit, changing your diet and going to the gym can be for anyone all ages all genders all races all sizes of people. 2. My magazine cover engages with many different types of audiences. All different people may want to start a journey of losing weight, gaining muscle and just starting to be active. This magazine cover attracts all of these types of people. It provides different types of meals, workout routines, advice from people who attend the gym and have good progress and a lot of motivational quotes to get them started. This engages the audience by making them feel that they should start their journey. My magazine cover can be distributed as a real media text 100%. I have seen a lot of work out magazines in all different places. It also contains everything that I actual magazine cover would have. It has a model in the background, different colors and fonts that attract people, Little bits of information about the magazine and a few previews on what the magazine will discuss. 3. My production skills have developed a lot through this project. I learned how to use many different applications such as Adobe and a little bit of photoshop for getting the layout and changing the background pictures and editing the way it looks. I also never knew how to set up a magazine cover until now when I discovered a layout and made it my own. It did take a lot of research to get an idea of what I am going for but this project definitely helped my skills in many ways. 4. While working on my magazine cover I integrated many different technologies. I used an app called PicsArt to make a cutout of the model so I can change the background colors in order to make it pop. Then I used Canva to create the title and the text that will catch people’s attention. I used another website to get little characters to make it more interesting to read. A lot of different technology went into the making of my magazine cover. 5. Candidates own experiences of media consumption to illustrate wider patterns and trends in audience behavior in many ways. For example, I used many different programs and layouts to help me create my own magazine cover. However there are a lot of technical logical changes within print media platforms. They are adapting to many challenges in this production because they create new media based off of trends during that time period. Some media such as newspapers and magazines may look very similar because they are all trying to keep up with what people will like. All media, whether it’s film, music or owned, is owned by a company that reserves the rights to produce, exhibit and distribute that product; Warner Bros. owns DC comics, and therefore has the rights to all the characters in DC Universe. Existence of global media giants, referred to as parent companies, end up controlling the production companies and the means to distribute, establishing a monopoly over the industry. On the basis of their firm groundwork and greater aggregate budget availability to invest into films and buy other smaller production houses, these limited media giants not only dictate how a movie is produced, but also consequentially eliminate competition from the market. This confines diversity and choice for audiences and gives birth to endless, poor quality, profit oriented sequels. A production company is the company that is responsible for making of a film and also maybe responsible for raising finance for that film, but this is not always the case. A production company maybe a small company, which sells its idea to a major studio or may co-produce a film. This is often the case because films are so expensive to make that. Vertical Ownership (Different parts of the organization involved in the same process) Hollywood studio Distribution company Cinema. Horizontal Integration Parent company NEWS CORPS Subsidiary company MYSPACE Subsidiary company THE SUN Subsidiary company 20th CENTURY FOX.
